What is Soft Washing?

Soft washing is a safe & effective cleaning technique using specially formulated biodegradable cleaning solutions to remove mold & mildew from exterior surfaces. Unlike pressure washing, which utilizes high-pressure to forcefully remove contaminants, soft washing uses a low-pressure application method. These solutions penetrate into the pores of the surface, killing mold, algae, and other organisms at their roots preventing regrowth for an extended period, resulting in a cleaner surface for a longer time.

Soft Washing vs. Pressure Washing

The choice between soft washing and pressure washing depends on the type of surface you are cleaning and the nature of the contaminants you need to remove. Here are some general guidelines on when to choose soft washing versus pressure washing:

Soft Washing:
  • Delicate Surfaces: Soft washing is ideal for cleaning more delicate surfaces such as painted or stained wood, roofing materials, vinyl siding, stucco, and other sensitive materials that could be damaged by high-pressure water.
  • Organic Stains: It is effective for removing organic stains like algae, moss, mildew, and mold. The cleaning solutions used in soft washing help to break down and kill these types of contaminants.
  • Preventing Damage: If there's a concern about potential damage to surfaces, especially on older or more fragile structures, soft washing is the safer option.

Pressure Washing:
  • Hard Surfaces: Pressure washing is suitable for harder surfaces like concrete, brick, pavement, and stone. These surfaces can withstand the higher pressure without being damaged.
  • Heavy Grease or Grime: Pressure washing is more effective for removing heavy layers of grease, oil, or stubborn grime from surfaces. The force of the high-pressure water can dislodge and remove such tough contaminants.

In some cases, a combination of both methods may be used. For example, soft washing can be used to apply cleaning solutions and kill mold and mildew, followed by a pressure wash to rinse away the loosened contaminants. It's essential to assess the specific needs of the cleaning project and the characteristics of the surfaces involved to make an informed decision between soft washing and pressure washing.
